The mission of The Deep South is to enable New Zealanders to adapt, manage risk and thrive in a changing climate. Central to the mission is a production of a new Earth System Model (a mathematical model of the earth's natural systems) which will be enhanced by real observations in the Southern Oceans and Antarctica. Building an Earth System Model of this scale will provide a breakthrough in the understanding how the planet works. Funded to $51.1 million over 10 years.
